Grape Varietals: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon & 50% Merlot
Growing Region: Maremma - Tuscany, Italy
Owner / Winemaker: Andrea Cecchi

I have had the pleasure of being involved with this project in Maremma for more than a decade. Visiting the vineyards and tasting the grapes and their first wines on my annual wine visits to Europe. This trip was extremely special - as after seeing the site from simple bare land, waiting to be planted and talking with Cesare and Andrea about architectural drawings of what the winery and cellars will look like.

To this July - arriving in the heat of the Tuscan sun and parking in front of the now virtually finished grand cellars, reception area, café / restaurant and offices - is the culmination of a great deal of foresight, guidance of a large number of people over this period, a belief in the region and a passion to craft quality wines for the next generation.
The vines grow in a mix of sandy soils, originating from quartz sandstone, with varied subtle slopes and aspects. With very little rainfall during a typical growing season, and located only a short distance from the coast, results in reviving breezes during the day and into the evening.
The fruit parcels for this blend were harvested during the first week in September - and taken only a short distance to the state of the art winery. The fruit then underwent a prolonged maceration, which was followed by a week-long fermentation at a temperature of around 25°C. After this the wine then had a second maceration of 10 days on skins. During this time, pump-over and delestage (rack and return) were also performed on the must for further flavour and character extraction.
Malolactic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks, followed by settling in tank, and ageing in second and third year old oak barrels, from a range of ‘cooperages’ and with different toast levels for additional palate complexity.
In your glass, you will be greeted by a plum red colour which has started to show some age around the edge. This unique wine with its Mediterranean soul, has at its core a heart of ripe fruit characters and showcasing a perfect combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot working in harmony.
This La Mora Maremma Toscana DOC blend has mint chocolate, ripe berries and subtle herbs on the nose. The plate is ripe, converting all of those aromas into confident flavours, combined with soft integrated oak and supportive natural tannins, all nicely balanced and giving this medium-bodied wine a pleasing early drinking appeal with character and a persistency on a dry finish. This wine is a friendly introduction to the Maremma region - which is quickly gaining a reputation for crafting vibrant wines, ideal with varied cuisine.
This 2014 Cecchi ‘La Mora’ Maremma Toscana DOC has 13% Alc. No decanting required and serve in an appropriate shaped glass at 15-17°C.

A well balanced, medium-bodied red blend, with character and appeal.
