Grape Varietals: A select cuvée of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier & Chardonnay
Growing Region: Reims, France
Chef de Cave: Régis Camus

During the summer of 2013, I was actually visiting the winery in Reims when I heard the news, that for the eighth time Régis Camus, Maison Piper-Heidsieck’s Cellar Master was awarded Sparkling Winemaker of the year by the International Wine Challenge.
The Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut NV is a classic style Champagne, elegantly structured and bursting with citrus fruits and personality.

The blend is composed of a majority of Pinot Noir, incorporating more than 100 crus from around the Champagne region and Pinot Meunier from the Grande et Petite Montagne de Reims region. The blend is aged for a minimum of 24 months on its lees before release; this Cuvée Brut NV defines the essence of the House style of Piper-Heidsieck.
From amongst their vineyards planted with traditional grape varieties, an honoured place is given to Pinot Noir which can make up to 55-60% giving structure to the blend. Chardonnay can be from 10-15% of the cuvee and adds layers and elegant characters. Pinot Meunier plays a key role comprising 15-20% which expands the cuvee and adds subtle detail and fresh fruit notes. Then the final touch comes from their precious reserve wines of some 10 to 15% which gives this wine its unique signature and non-vintage style.
As you pour this Champagne your flute will be filled with a pale, golden glow, with delicate fine bubbles bursting from the base. On the nose you will find fresh fruits, with pear and citrus notes, morning crisp apple and subtle hints of toastiness and springtime blossom.
Intentionally made in a forward and approachable style - the palate has good structure, lively and fresh, with interwoven layers of pear, subtle hints of pineapple, nutmeg, white pepper and oriental zest. The finale gives it full attention to citrus and grapefruit flavours that create a pleasing and refreshing mouth-feel and a harmonious balance to the crisp finish. Chill and serve at 8°C.

As the epitome of crispness and radiance.

Drinking perfectly well this season; and will mature gracefully for another 2-3 years.

Perfect Champagne as an aperitif, with shellfish, sushi & sashimi and even fresh fruit desserts, enjoy.
