Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Growing Region: Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
Owner / Chief Winemaker: Peter Robertson

It was 2009 when Peter last felt that all the ingredients required to craft the renowned ‘Marshall Bank’ Chardonnay were in ideal proportions. 2013 was an exceptional growing season, giving Peter the opportunity to shape his ‘Classic’ Chardonnay - with the grapes for this wine grown and sourced from their 'Ohiti Estate'. The name ‘Marshall Bank’ comes from Peter’s old family property in west Otago, where Dr. Bill Robertson practiced for 45 years.

After achieving the deserved ripeness, the grapes were carefully hand-picked and brought back to the winery where they were whole bunch pressed on the 11th April. Fermentation took place in a mix of both new and seasoned French oak barriques in the temperature controlled environment of their cellars. After the wine had reached dryness, the wine was left on its gross lees and stirred weekly until it was racked ready for blending and bottling. This outstanding Chardonnay spent a total of 8 months developing in oak barrels.
Due to the wine only recently being released at the winery over Easter, this young wine has a golden straw colour that will fill your glass. On the nose this stunning Chardonnay has an array of inviting ripe summer fruit aromas which lift your senses. Even though this wine has a great deal of integrating and bottled development to achieve - the wines palate is rich in ripe stone-fruits with complimentary oak, toast and spice, all balanced and molded together by the vanilla notes from the new French oak barriques.
All of these characters create an enticing, succulent and mouth-filling Chardonnay, with balanced freshness from the fruits natural acidity, giving the wine an elegance and pleasing finish. Even in its youth this wine shows true class and elegance, but time to develop will evolve and reward. This Chardonnay has 14% alcohol and if opened in the next 12 months, cool decant for 20 minutes and serve at 10-12°C.

A premium Chardonnay with layers of character.
