Every time I open a bottle of wine crafted by the Cecchi Family - each sip takes me back to their vineyards, winery and to the wonderful friends I have within their extended working family. This wine as with all before, reminds me so vividly of the history, traditions and culture of Tuscany, plus all those times visiting local Trattoria’s enjoying authentic flavoured cuisine in small, hill top towns.

This 2010 ‘Riserva di Famiglia’ is like a mirror - reflecting the unique terroir from which it is sourced. It is such an expressive wine and one not to be missed. The Riserva di Famiglia represents the Cecchi family’s deep connection with the Chianti Classico area. The talented team from the vineyard through to the winery have crafted a special cuvee, produced only in years in which the grapes reach the required quality. Their carefully tended vines are located in the Castellina area in the heart of Chianti Classico, situated some 250 meters above sea level, creating the perfect conditions for the vines bunches to develop, which are then carefully harvested at optimal flavours.
The fruit for this wine was harvested during the last 10 days of September. On arrival into the winery, traditional vinification was carried out under controlled temperatures. With the pressed juice sitting on skins during fermentation in stainless steel tanks for about 21 days. The wine was then transferred to oak; where it is then aged for a minimum of 2 years, 12 months of which is spent in oak barriques, and then rested for 3 months in bottle before release.
As you pour this wine into your glass, you will be greeted by a brilliant and intense red colour. The wine has a full and expressive bouquet, characterized by notes of dark summer fruits, dried flowers, earthy spices and smoky oak. On the palate, the wine is confident showcasing rich fruit flavours and has an elegant structure with integrated firm tannins. This wine engages all of your palate, revealing multiple layers of dark fruits, dried spices along with forest floor and tobacco all entwined with its time in oak, creating a balanced, full bodied wine, with a lingering and persistent finish. Decanter for 30-45 minutes; serve at 16-18°C.

An expressive wine with structure and style.
