Since Caroline has been refocusing the team’s attention on every detail from viticulture to winemaking - each wine in their diverse family of labels has benefited. This 2012 Jaboulet Parallèle 45 is no exception, with the quality of this wine and its drinkability being possibly the best I have tried from this label. It has been said that the reputation of the Côtes du Rhône wines has virtually been built by this label.

 

And this vintage will only enhance that belief and the Rhône as the region producing the greatest value in quality French wine. This 2012 Rhône red blend is full of personality for a wine having a hands off approach, letting the varietals and the season shine through. This wine will further enhance the reputation of the Jaboulet Parallèle 45 being France’s best value red wine. The Jaboulet family gave this wine its name in the early 1950’s - taking its name from the 45th Northern parallel which runs two kilometers from their Vineum cellars, in the village of Pont de l’Isère.
This 2012 Jaboulet Côtes du Rhône Parallèle 45 is a blend of Grenache and Syrah from vines averaging 25-30 years of age. The vineyards used are located throughout the Rhône Valley being combined to produce a pure, vibrant expression of this regions red wine.
The grapes arrived at the winery and were sorted and vinified in stainless steel tank for about 3 - 4 weeks to extract the wines inviting colour, flavour and mouth-feel, followed by 3-6 months ageing in tank prior to final tasting and bottling. This vintage has expressive vibrant berry freshness and balance, while producing a full an engaging food friendly wine. The southern Rhône experienced ideal growing conditions in 2012, with a good spring and summer period, being ideally warm and dry, allowing the grapes to mature in optimal conditions producing physiological ripe fruit.
In the glass you will be greeted by a deep red colour with an attractive brilliant hue. On the nose this vintage has aromas of wild red fruits blended with warm spices. These lifted berry flavours carry onto the well structured palate with rounded natural tannins and exotic dried spice notes. The tannins are well integrated with the ripe fruit flavours resulting in a medium bodied wine with a friendly approachable nature and an elegant mouth-feel. Producing a wine; with a long and graceful finish and a final note of lifted spice. Decant for 20 minutes and serve at 16-18°C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this season; and will age nicely over the next 3-4 years.

Perfect wine pairing with grilled, bbq’d and roasted meats like lamb and pork, along with pasta dishes and homemade pizza and with hard, aged cheeses, enjoy.
