Grape Varietal: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Region: Awatere Valley, New Zealand
Owner / Winemaker: Glenn Thomas

Glenn is one of pioneers who believed in the Awatere Valley for producing quality wines. His extensive experience guides the resulting wine towards subtlety and elegance. This recently launched ‘Boulder Rows’ Sauvignon Blanc is another dynamic Tupari wine - an even more bespoke and complex style of Sauvignon Blanc. The growing season and this unique block produced physiologically ripe parcels, meaning the fruit had subtle herbaceous flavours.

The quality of the fruit steered Glenn to ferment the juice with very high levels of must solids, meaning the juice was quite milky during this process. These grape solids during fermentation have produced attractive, broad characters on the expressive palate.
The fermentation took place in old oak barrels at temperatures of around 20-24°C which is much warmer than conventional style fermentation of Sauvignon Blanc. Extended contact with its lees post fermentation has further developed the wines vibrant flavour profile. The intensive technique is used to retain reductive notes, but still allow certain riper fruit notes to show through in the wine. Glenn prefers this style to be dry, so this wine will also benefit with some bottle age, which will add more depth over the next 2 or 3 years. Glenn was so impressed with this parcel of fruit that he decided to create this barrique fermented Sauvignon Blanc - crafting a wine with a textural palate that retains freshness and the fruit character this varietal is renowned.
Your glass will be filled with a pale straw-gold colour. The nose has an elegance, but with a definite concentration of green fruits, soft dried herbs and delicate flinty notes. This wine has a silky, clean palate, an engaging texture and very stylish, with notable balance. This wine shows what can be done when you have no time constraints, the fruit and the know-how. This 2014 Tupari ‘Boulder Rows’ Sauvignon Blanc is distinguished by its creamy texture and appealing layered characters derived from its complex barrel fermentation and lees aging. This alternative style of Sauvignon Blanc exhibits flinty notes, lifted passion-fruit and green melon flavours, along with a well-integrated mineral seam lingering on the finish.
This dry, barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc has 13% Alc. Gently chill and serve at 8-9°C.

A Sauvignon Blanc crafted with a distinctive character and minerality.
