Grape Varietal: 100% Shiraz
Growing Region: Eden Valley, South Australia
Chief Winemaker: Grant Burge

This 2013 ‘Balthasar’ Shiraz is part of the ‘Wines of Distinction’ range crafted by founder & chief winemaker Grant Burge. The fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from the Eden Valley area of the Barossa wine region. Fruit from this area has traditionally been a key component of Barossa blends - though this wine looks to showcase the elegant varietal characteristics of Shiraz achieved from this unique region.

The 2013 vintage in and across the region was remembered for being one of the driest, earliest and quickest vintage in memory. These conditions resulted in lower than normal crop levels, through with some exceptional ripe fruit flavour profiles.
This wine was crafted of 4 individual parcels though from the same Eden valley vineyard. Each parcel was picked separately and received their own unique fermentation treatment. Traditional winemaking techniques were used and in particular extended maceration occurred, to add more depth of flavour and allow for a softening of the natural tannins.
After pressing, 60% of the wine went to new French oak hogsheads and 40% into 2,500 litre French oak vats. The wine was left on its own fine lees for approximately 6 months, the parcels were tasted and then blended, with the barrels then being cleaned and re-filled for a further 12 months of oak maturation.
In your glass you will have a rich red colour with a vibrant aroma of wild berries, dried spice and bitter chocolate, along with a hint of mild peppercorns. The palate is a perfect balance of mixed wild red and dark berries along with smooth tannins. This 2013 ‘Balthasar’ Eden Valley Shiraz is all about texture - expressing concentrated blackberries, Black-Doris plum flavours all perfectly integrated, with soft, silky tannins, good palate structure and entwined touches of dried spices, vanilla and oak characters. This is a complex engaging wine with an exceptional texture, an elegant personality and a lingering finish.
This Shiraz has 14% Alc. Decanter for 60-90 minutes and serve at 16-18°C.
