Grape Varietal: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Region: Talon Vineyard, Grovetown, Marlborough
Chief Winemaker: Matt Thomson

Lake Chalice Wines is one of the few remaining privately and locally owned wineries located in Marlborough - the country's largest wine-growing region of New Zealand. Long-time friends Chris Gambitsis and Phil Binnie started Lake Chalice Wines back in 1989 on an 11ha stony paddock in Rapaura and Wairau Valley. They now own four unique vineyard sites, as well as sourcing quality fruit from a select number of contract growers.

Chris and Phil were joined in 1998 by talented winemaker Matt Thomson who shares their simple philosophy of crafting quality varietal wines from Marlborough grapes. Their ‘Talon’ vineyard located in Grovetown which is adjacent north of the town of Blenheim and which provides two thirds of the final blend. With the balance coming from two other unique vineyards in the same area of Marlborough’s Wairau Plain.
Lake Chalice have long been recognised for crafting bright, fruit forward, early drinking style Sauvignon Blanc wines. With this 2015 expression being sourced from a small cropping season, the fruit is packed with a vibrant personality and fruit concentration, ready to be enjoyed over the New Year and summer period.
When Phil was happy with the flavour profile of the different parcels of fruit. The carefully harvested grapes were promptly transported to the winery; being pressed without delay to retain all their natural vibrancy. Each parcel was cool fermented separately in stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts to express the natural lifted character in the fruit.
In your glass you will have a pale straw colour with a subtle lime glow around the edges. As with the Sauvignon Blanc style they are known for - this vintage has a lifted aroma of passion-fruit, tomato leaf and understated capsicum notes. The controlled and precise winemaking decisions has produced a crisp, off-dry style, medium bodied white wine, with a bright fruit forward and well-balanced palate. The refreshing natural acidity is nicely complemented by the mineral notes, resulting in a lively and lifted lingering clean finish.
This 2015 Sauvignon Blanc has 13% Alc. Chill gently and serve at 7-9°C.

A crisp, vibrant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
