Grape Varietal: 100% Pinot Gris
Growing Region: Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
Owner / Chief Winemaker: Peter Robertson

As with previous vintages - the majority of the fruit for this wine comes from Ohiti Estate, which is in a protected inland heat trap on the bed of the old Ngaruroro River. These ageing vines are grown on arid alluvial soils, where Pinot Gris ripens well, and is producing vibrant fruit, full of flavour, texture and controlled acidity. The 2015 growing conditions were hot and dry, hence the concentrated flavour development found in this wine.

The parcels of fruit used to craft this wine arrived at the winery on the 29th March, the grapes were then quickly pressed to retain lifted characters. The natural tint off the Pinot Gris skins has gently kissed this wine leaving a subtle hue to the finished wine in certain light. The free run juice was kept separate from the pressings. Then overnight the different parcels were allowed to cold settle, the clear juice was inoculated with an aromatic yeast, and fermented at cool temperatures. Following completion of its gentle fermentation, the wine remained on its gross lees to add palate texture and flavour enhancement, with weekly stirring, until a balanced personality was achieved.
As you pour this wine into your glass, you will be greeted by an enticing straw gold colour with a subtle rose glow around the edges. On the nose you will be enticed my lifted nashi pear, white peach, dried spice and a hint of wild honey. These characters also carry equally onto the palate, having a personality which typifies this unique ‘Robertson’ Pinot Gris. This dynamic vintage is made in a medium-dry style, the mid palate is rich and complex with good texture, length and weight on a pleasingly long finish.
This wine has impressed both enthusiasts and knowledgeable wine critics the world over. Being respected as one of the world’s best expressions of this varietal. This Pinot Gris can be enjoyed at lunch, late afternoon and with a diverse range of evening meals - I encourage you to sip, savour and share with good friends and family before it’s too late.
This 2015 ‘Robertson’ Pinot Gris has 14% Alc. Chill gently and serve at 8-10°C.
