Grape Varietal: 100% Semillon
Growing Region: Riverina, Australia
Owner / Winemaker: Darren De Bortoli

The ‘Noble One’ Botrytis Semillon is a flagship wine for the De Bortoli family. Not bad for a sweet wine many believed could never be made, let alone have a market. Darren after graduating from Roseworthy quickly recognised the potential to make a premium quality dessert wine from grapes affected by ‘botrytis cinerea’ in the Riverina area. Where his family winery is located in Bilbul, Victoria in Australia, with the first being made in 1982.

During the 2010 summer months, there were regular periods of heavy rain resulting in high humidity leading to the earliest harvest of ‘Noble One’ grapes, with hand picking beginning on 17th March. The conditions produced excellent botrytis in each vineyard and within each bunch of berries, and the harvest was all over within seven days.
Select vineyards which have grown fruit for ‘Noble One’ for many years were once again chosen for this 2010 vintage. These sites consistently produce quality botrytis affected Semillon fruit with natural sweetness, luscious character and intense botrytis flavours synonymous with this rich wine. Each parcel was harvested separately then fermented and matured individually. The parcels unique characteristics when blended together each enhance the complexity of this wine. This vintage was matured in 29% new French oak barriques, 64% developed in one and two year old barriques with the remaining 7% left in tank to add some freshness to the final blend.
As you pour this ever so delicious wine, you will be greeted by light golden colour. This wine has an intoxicating aroma of honeycomb and marmalade with a hint of grilled peach and vanillin oak notes. The palate is generous with rich layers of intense botrytis fruits including balanced citrus notes along with marmalade, a touch of butterscotch in harmony with attractive vanilla oak. The palate has concentrated stone-fruit flavours, honeycomb, nectarine, apricot, candied tangerine pieces and refreshing lifted citrus notes. Yes this 2010 'Noble One’ is rich and unctuous resulting from its 201 grams of residual sugar, which extend the pleasurable flavours of above, giving the wine a long and engaging finish.
This 2010 De Bortoli ‘Noble One’ has 10% Alc - (500ml). Gently chill and serve in a small aromatic wine glass at 8-10°C.

An iconic and ever so luscious dessert wine.
