Grape Varietal: 100% Sangiovese
Growing Region: Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Owner / Chief Winemaker: Andrea Cecchi

I have had the pleasure to visit the picture-postcard hilltop town of Montalcino on a few occasions over the years. Montalcino settled since Etruscan time’s, shares with only a hand-full of unique places in the world - a distinct character and enduring bond between the Sangiovese vine and the chosen terroir. Selected clones of Sangiovese have given guidance to the Cecchi family who could not say no to the call of these ideal hillsides.

As these slopes represent the quintessential potential of Sangiovese. This unique expression is how the Brunello began. Since their first vintage, Andrea and the team have crafted a wine of defined quality and elegance, a worthy representative of such a prestigious place in the world of wine.
Their vineyards are situated at 350-450 meters above sea level, grown in a combination of soils containing a high presence of stones with layers of clay and sandstone. Once each of the parcels were ready for harvesting, the fruit was brought back to the winery some 65 km's north. The fruit underwent red wine vinification at controlled temperatures, initially in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation took place at 28°C for approximately 18 days, then transferred to oak for barrel maturation for 24 months, in a mix of 20% new, 80% two and three year old oak. After tasting and blending, the wine was then bottled where it rested for a minimum of 24 months development before being labeled and released onto the market.
As you pour this wine into your generous glass, you will be greeted by a deep red colour with garnet overtones. As you lean in to have your first sip, your senses will first be impressed by the intense fragrant aromas of ripe berry fruits, floral notes and the judicious use of French oak. These confident and complex aromas typical of this varietal when physiologically ripe, carry through onto the palate which is full and engaging. The berry flavours are bold, broad and layered across your palate with well integrated oak and natural well balanced firm tannins. With each new sip you enjoy waves of black cherries, violets, tobacco, earthy-oak notes all working in harmony to produce a long lingering finish.
This 2010 Cecchi ‘Brunello di Montalcino’ DOCG has 14% Alc. Decanting for 30-45 minutes and serve at 16-18°C.

Drinking perfectly well this season; plus will age well for another 5-6 years.

Perfect wine pairing with roasted and bbq’d red meats, wild game pasta dishes with a rich wine based sauce, earthy well-seasoned vegetarian cuisine and aged hard cheeses - enjoy.
