Barros is an outstanding Port House with a pioneering and dynamic history, being founded back in 1913. Throughout they have followed a strong winemaking philosophy, confirmed by being recognized on a regular basis with awards, accolades and acknowledgements from the industry itself. Since 2006 Barros become a part of the Sogevinus Group, which has broadened their resources, knowledge and skill base.

 

And with the recent appointment of Carlos as chief winemaker back In September of 2013, the quality of Barros continues to be appreciated by Port lovers the world over. The fermentation took place in stainless steel vats with controlled maceration and pumping over at temperatures of 30°C, until the wine reached the desired level of residual sugar, and then at this stage the brandy-spirit was added. This unique style of Port is all about blending. Carefully going through and tasting vintage after vintage from the many barrels, looking at the various components in order to achieve the flavour profile and specific characteristics Barros is known - and then blending to an average of 10 years of age.
As the name suggests are you pour this Port into your glass you will be greeted by a brown-tawny colour and a bright sheen. On the nose you will be engaged by inviting dried, sweet fruit aromas, along with delicate vanilla, nuts and chocolate notes.
The palate is soft and silky in texture and with the extended, but controlled length of time in oak you can enjoyed the subtle nuances of wood balanced by complex tannins, spice, fruit and a mixture of roasted nuts and coffee-chocolate characters. With all these flavours along with the residual sugar of around 110 g/L and the Ports texture culminating to produce a lingering and elegant finish.
This Barros ’10 Years Old’ Tawny Port has 20% Alc. Enjoy in a smaller shaped glass to focus the wine to the front of the palate and best served at 12-15°C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this winter season; and will aged nicely for another 3-5 years while still unopened. Though if opened to enjoy it at its best, store in a cool-dark place and drink within 2-3 months. 

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine pairing with rich fruit cakes, sticky-date puddings, nut and chocolate based cakes and desserts, along with nut and chocolate ice-creams, and aged, blue cheeses - enjoy.
