Grape Varietal: 100% Syrah
Growing Regions: Rhône Valley & Languedoc, France
Owner / Head Winemaker: Caroline Frey

It has been 10 years now since Caroline Frey and her family took over the ownership and winemaking at Paul Jaboulet Aîné. So I am looking forward to catching up with all the team in just a few days in Tain L’Hermitage. To celebrate this occasion and all the exciting changes, developments and the repositioning of Jaboulet to its rightful place as an iconic wine producer in the Rhône Valley and in France.

This blended expression and named with ‘Syrah’ on the front-label, is another example of the ongoing developments behind the scenes at Jaboulet. For developing wine markets around the world, and without the benefit always of the knowledge of the grape varietals making up these dynamic wines of the Rhône Valley. It is a most helpful and an inviting greeting to new wine enthusiasts to this range of quality, vibrant wines which the team at Jaboulet are continuously improving upon.
This wine is a blend of heritage fruit sourced in the Rhône Valley and with a parcel of fruit from the Languedoc region, bringing with it lifted, ripe fruit flavours. Sourcing grapes from across a range of terroirs allows Jaboulet to create a well-balanced wine with their characteristic quality. This wine has been crafted without time in oak, retaining and expressing the bright natural berry flavours in the fruit parcels and producing a fruit-driven style Syrah.
As you pour this wine, you will be greeted by a dark red colour, with a violet hue. The nose is intense and inviting, showing ripe dark summer berries and subtle spices. The fruit and gentle winemaking has produced a medium bodied wine with generous, ripe berry flavours, along with the classic Syrah characters of blackcurrants and liquorice. Along with subtle dried herbs and white pepper notes combined with delicate soft natural tannins supporting the wine nicely, and giving the wine a smooth lingering finish.
This 2013 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Syrah has 13.5% Alc. Best served at 15-17°C.

An inviting, fruit forward style of Syrah from the Rhône Valley.
