Last July I had the pleasure to spend a wonderful week with the passionate and talented family and team at Cecchi in the heart of Tuscany. This 'Riserva di Famiglia' (Family Reserve) is one of Cecchi’s most terroir expressive of wine, showcasing all that is special about Tuscany and Sangiovese. The 'Riserva di Famiglia' reflects the Cecchi family’s deep connection and knowledge of this historic Chianti Classico area.

This label and wine represents a special cuvee which is produced in only the best of years. The Cecchi family in addition to gathering winemaking expertise since they were founded back in 1893 - and along with many years of innovative agriculture. This wine is comprised of the passion that made the Cecchi family one of the iconic symbols of Chianti Classico. The ‘Riserva di Famiglia’ is only produced from vintages deemed to meet their high standards, with ongoing barrel sampling to select the best components for the final blend.
As the parcels of fruit arrived into the winery, the berries underwent a combination of traditional and modern vinification. For a managed period of time, at controlled temperatures the juice picked up primary characters while on skins. Fermentation was at around 26°C and maceration took place for about 15 days, until it was time to be transferred to oak, where is aged for 2 years, with a minimum of 12 months in a mixture of oak barriques and tonneaux. Then after blended and bottling it was then rested in bottle for a minimum 3 months before allowed to be released.
As you pour this wine into a generous glass, you will be greeted an intense deep red colour. On the nose the wines aroma reveals a wide array of ripe dark fruits, dried spices and tobaccos notes. The wines palate has a solid confident structure, with engaging complex layers of rich fruit flavours, and well integrated supportive earthy tannins and spicy oak notes. Resulting in an elegant mouth feel and leading into a broad lingering finish.
This 2011 Cecchi 'Riserva di Famiglia' DOCG has 13.5% Alc. Decant for 30-45 minutes and serve at 16-17°C.

A premium quality Tuscan Sangiovese with rich layers of character.
