Torbreck has a solid tradition of producing expressive, rich red wines. Though in my opinion the best character of this ‘Woodcutter’s’ Shiraz is the complexity and texture rarely found at this price. The aged dry grown bush vines which provide the succulent ripe fruit for this wine are located across the north-western area of the Barossa Valley, each being carefully hand harvested in late February and into early April 2014.

The unique vineyards sites include - Marananga, Greenock, Ebenezer, Gomersal, Moppa, Lyndoch and Kalimna. Chief winemaker Craig Isbel who has been crafting these wines since 2006 - has consistently shown his skills and abilities to not only craft outstanding wines from these bush vines, but is able to interpreter and expressive dynamic wines appreciated by knowledgeable enthusiasts.
This wine expresses the true varietal nature of Shiraz sourced from classic old bush vines from the Barossa Valley, and an incredible introduction to the family of stunning cuvee’s crafted at Torbreck. The fruit was fermented in a combination of open top cement and wooden vats along with stainless steel tanks for a week. The juice was then basket pressed and transferred into well-seasoned hogsheads and French oak foudres where it matured and developed for up to 12 months. After racking and tasting each parcel, the final blend was bottled like previous vintages without being fined or filtered.
As you pour this wine into your generous glass you will be greeted be a rich, deep red colour. On the palate this wine is full of rich, summer dark fruits, the 2014 vintage has resulted in a rich and complex wine. In the mouth the core of dark fruit also showcases an intense textural mid palate full of ripe blueberries, fresh spices and mocha chocolate and wrapped up in supportive natural tannins and well integrated oak. Whilst this wine offers immense pleasure in its youth this 2014 'Woodcutter’s' Shiraz will further impressive with a few years of development. This wine gives generously on the palate and the finish is classic rich Barossa with a long and lingering dry finish.
